Class Descriptions

Gentle Therapeutic Series

Ongoing since 1998, this gentle and inspirational class provides a safe introductory overview to the basics of body mechanics and breath awareness.
Each month we focus on a different body system as it relates to the whole.

We use props including blankets, blocks, ties and bolsters to assist us to achieve deeper body awareness. The class includes sitting, standing and reclining poses all designed to develop increased flexibility and strength, while we move through each posture to achieve better balance and maintain vitality in all the joints. The class is appropriate for beginners and returning students who wish to bring attention to anatomical awareness and inner harmony.

Restorative Yoga

Emphasizing a compassionate and nurturing approach, this class encourages a safe and supportive environment to relax the body and mind for those who accumulate stress related to chronic body aches or an active lifestyle. Focusing on the intelligent movement of the spine in reclining poses, awareness of the breath, and effective understanding of our relationship to gravity within each posture, Annica helps guide each student to a point of optimal release. No standing postures are included. Annica received her primary training in restorative techniques in 1998 with Judith Lasater PhD, PT., author of the best selling book, Relax and Renew, and has offered this class in Santa Cruz continually since then.

Adaptive Yoga

The Adaptive Yoga classes are designed for students with a variety of needs who are looking for a safe place to experience the multiple benefits of yoga. These benefits would include increased flexibility, greater sense of balance, moderate strengthening, and the ability to be present in themselves in the breath to achieve the optimum degree of healing in each experience whether in a yoga class or in the world. Annica and several trained yoga instructors lead a class at a rate that suits those who may need extra time or assistance in moving in and out of the poses. Postures can be adapted for a variety of health conditions including but not limited to Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, advanced arthritic conditions, stroke recovery, and many post surgical situations. Please call Annica at 831-423-9642 to register for this class. The class is wheel chair accessible.
